Genre, Budget, Audience, and Finance

Welcome blogger readers to my 10th blogger entry discussion post!

Today I will be reviewing some genre films similar to mine, how the movies are financed, and where the money comes from.

My movie is a spoof (a mixture of comedy and horror) about the year 2020 based on real events. Each character out of four in the film opening will all have an unavoidable event that ties all together.

Films in this combined horror and comedy genre typically embrace a broad range of emotions. The emotions vary from happiness, sadness, suspense, and terror, with loads of laughter in between scenes. Some include gore, emphasizes clichés, and common stereotypes.

For instance, the recent horror/comedy film 'Freaky' varies from killer, horror, and comedy. This movie is similar to my short film opening because it includes characters with an unavoidable event that they have not other option but to face. Our audience is identical because it directs teens and young adults who enjoy horror with a mixture of comedy and realism.

Horror movies are generally financed through significant film production studios, independent studios, grants from non-profit studios, tax incentives, pre-sales, pickup deals, gap financing, private investors, sponsorships, crowdfunding, and product placement. Of all these financial sources, movies are primarily financed from a major film production studio or either an independent studio. A significant film production handles most of the funding when a film is made by a major film studio (often identified as Hollywood film). However, when a film project is done without a major studio's help, it is recognized as an independent or indie film. When a movie is being produced independently of a studio, it's up to the film's producers to obtain financing for their project. Independent filmmakers use their networks, tax credits, and grants to patch together funding to make their film.
