Titles and Social Groups

Hello, welcome to my 6th blog! 

Today I will discuss titles in the horror genre, title information, and portrayed social groups within horror films. 

Titles are one of the essential conventions of a horror film. The title grasps the audience's attention and can give them small leading information into the film's storyline and plot. 

Title Style 

The horror genre typically contains film titles with blood, capital letters, red-colored or white-colored text, and black backgrounds. Styles like this composes the text to stand out and attracts the audience's attention to the words. Also, the style informs the audience about the movie itself. Most times in horror films, the titles cut in between the clips of action. 

Title Size 

Title sizes in horror films are usually large and noticeable. If they are apparent, they will be in all capital letters and bolded. Most large titles consume the entire screen, or it zooms into the title then transitions into the opening scene. 

Title Fonts

Horror titles primarily utilize skewed, scattered, or italicized fonts.  Most look handwritten to imply the tone of the film and how eerie and uneased it will feel towards to audience. 

Title Information 

Most horror titles include the film's name and a short/brief summary catchline. The catch lines are often minimized under the title or at the bottom of the screen title. 

Social Class 

Horror films primarily aim at the middle social class. Horror films aim at the middle class because they can acquire a good thrill at a reasonably low cost. Whereas the upper level may be less likely to watch horror films as they can catch thrills if they need to do so in other ways. On the other hand, for a working/low social class member, it may be a way of escaping their less exciting lives and losing themselves inside of the world of horror and thriller.
