Genre Settings and Genre Location Shooting
Welcome to my fifth blog entry!
Today I will discuss familiar horror genre settings and locations, where horror movies are often filmed, intended horror movie audiences, the horror audience's moviegoing habits, and plans to get an audience for my film.
Location and Setting
The horror genre is known to be repetitive, stereotypical, and cliche. Many elements are repeated in horror films. For instance, the setting and location are nearly similar in all horror and thriller movies. In the horror genre, films often include dark woods, isolated houses, mental asylums, abandoned buildings, haunted locations, and lakes. Also, all horror films are primarily set at night with little to no lighting.
These locations connect the audience to suspense, unease, and tension throughout the entire film.
Intended Audiences
Each movie genre and film overall has a target movie audience. For instance, stereotypes, age-rated movies, gender-targeted, and sexuality targeted movies are all examples of targeted audiences. The horror and thriller genre mainly imply their films for teenagers and young adults. This age division is targeted because they often enjoy the thrill and are often drawn to graphic scenes and images.
More Males than Females
Stereotypically men enjoy viewing more violence and gruel subjects than women in the horror genre.
Males are better targeted because males are stereotypically seen as immature. They are more susceptible to displaying blood, guts, and gore in horror films/TV shows. However, many young females enjoy horror films just as much as males.
Moviegoing Habits
Generally, the target interests of a horror film are blood and intense violence. Also, it targeted individuals that display interest in the supernatural realm and the unexplained/psychological. They also aim at individuals that relish the sensation of mystery, delusion, and illusion.
Horror films may target groups of people.
For instance, horror films aim at teenagers' groups, as it is almost a common event to watch a horror film and enjoy the thrill together. Groups of teenagers are also attracted to these films as it gives a group division a topic to discuss.
Plans of Targeting Audience
I plan for audiences to view my film by attracting the correct groups. Such as those who enjoy the thrill of horror with a combination of comedy. Also, those who love seeing reality portrayed in events they can relate to within the film.
